Technical Responsibilities

• Design, architect, and implement payment solutions
• Create and maintain connections with payment gateways
• Develop secure and scalable backend payment solutions using Ruby on Rails
• Write clean, maintainable code with comprehensive test coverage
• Provide technical documentation for payment processes

Product Responsibilities

• Lead requirements gathering with internal stakeholders
• Define product specifications and scope
• Coordinate with external stakeholders such as 3rd party payment gateway providers
• Build deep understanding of payment workflows across TableCheck’s product suite
• Collaborate with the Engineering Manager on roadmap and resource planning
• Manage end-to-end product lifecycle

Mandatory Skills

Technical Skills

• 5+ years of backend development using Ruby on Rails
• 3+ years of payment gateway integrations or payment system development
• 3+ years MongoDB or PostgreSQL
• Strong understanding of software security principles
• Experience with AI-based workflows (e.g., Copilot, Cursor, etc)
• Experience with test-driven development

Product Skills

• 3+ years experience in the payment space (payment gateways, payment processing, reporting)
• Ability to build trust through collaboration and effective communication
• Problem-oriented mindset that prioritizes understanding the “why” before the “how”
• Ability to define and prioritize initiatives while working cross-functionally
• Experience managing complex stakeholder relationships
• Comfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity
• Work well under pressure, with proven experience on complex, time-critical projects

Recommended Skills

• Familiarity with the F&B industry
• Experience working in a start-up
• Familiarity with Japanese culture
• Strong communication skills in a multicultural environment

Language Skills

• Business level English required
• Japanese is a plus but not mandatory
