A leading global fintech company is seeking a Tokyo-based Legal Counsel to support its commercial, partnerships, and regulatory functions across Japan and the wider APAC region. You will play a key role in advising on high-impact deals, localizing legal frameworks for the Japanese market, and contributing to international legal strategies in a fast-moving environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal advice to commercial, partnerships, product, and regulatory teams in Japan.
• Draft, review, and negotiate complex cross-border agreements, including service and partnership contracts.
• Manage support for existing contracts, including dispute resolution and risk mitigation.
• Localize and improve standard agreements and legal operations for the Japanese market.
• Contribute to global legal initiatives, especially around regulatory compliance and implementation.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial legal work, preferably in payments, financial services, or fintech.
• Experience advising on international or cross-border commercial matters.

Technical Expertise:

• Legal qualification and license to practice law in Japan.

Soft Skills:

• Strong negotiation and communication skills in both Japanese and English.
• Ability to work both independently and in global, cross-functional teams.
